Pintley’s ONCEMADE collaboration features Backlash and Nightshift Brewing

Today, the folks at Pintley (a social media tool for beer lovers) have announced their latest project: ONCEMADE.

ONCEMADE is a seasonal collaboration pairing two unforgettable, single-batch beers from local artisan brewers. Each season, our goal is to bring consumers two once-in-a-lifetime beers made right here in Massachusetts.

Release #1 brings together the forces of Backlash Beer Company (http://backlashbeer.com/) and Night Shift Brewing (http://www.nightshiftbrewing.com/).  Both are relatively newer breweries with Backlash opening in 2010/2011 and Night Shift officially launching in March of 2012.

The ONCEMADE project was something that Tim, Rich and the Pintley crew have been thinking about for a couple of years. Now, with the combined crew from Backlash and Night Shift, release #1 will take place on September 17th.

Release #1 features two Barrel-Aged Sour Imperial Saisons—one from Night Shift Brewing and one from Backlash Beer. While the saison is a historic farmhouse style, these beers are anything but conventional.

  • Backlash’s pale saison with a pilsner and wheat malt base—is a minimalist 6% ABV masterpiece with Nugget and Willamette hops.
  • Night Shift’s red saison—boasting a complex malt bill that includes caramel, wheat, rye, and acid malts—will reach over 8% ABV and features Saaz and Willamette hops, as well as agave nectar added to the end of the boil.

Both beers underwent primary fermentation with a traditional saison yeast before aging for two months in a combination of oak barrels. The brewers selected local red wine barrels from Les Trois Emmes Winery in New Marlborough Massachusetts and classic brandy barrels from southern California. The beers are aged on farm-grown Massachusetts raspberries with added Brettanomyces yeast.

The saison’s will be packaged in hand-numbered pinewood box, which will include two 750ML beers, two hand-made wooden coasters, a piece of one of the barrels, and a signed letter from the brewers. These beers are exclusive to the project, and there will only be 900 two-bottle packages ever brewed!

Pre-orders begin today at OnceMadeBeer.com, and we’ll be releasing the beers around September 17. Local pickup locations include Craft Beer Cellar, Boston Wine Exchange, and Night Shift Brewing. Estimated cost $45.00.
