Review: Flying Dog Underdog Atlantic Lager

From Flying Dog: “Underdog is light and refreshing with crisp hop character and pairs best with foods like simple salads, Provolone and Monterey Jack cheeses, seafood and light proteins.”

Underdog pours a straw yellow hue with a healthy, two-finger white head that quickly dissipates. The body has a slight haze, particularly in the last pour. With the head suppressed, there is a very thin wispy glaze on top of the beer, and virtually no lacing whatsoever. The aroma is filled with light bisquity malts, entwined with light fruity lemon notes with earthy undertones.

The initial taste has faint malts with some light straw character, going to a slightly bitter finish that’s fairly dry. The mouthfeel is light with a smooth crisp feeling, and there is active carbonation that creats a tickling sensation. Towards the end, there is a slightly dry finish that extends over a long duration.

In our opinion, this is a very delicious lager. It is light, clean, and refreshing. Exactly what we’re looking for in a lager.
