Beer: “Norm” Chocolate Coconut Stout
Brewery: Wormtown Brewery

Beer Details:

  • Style: Chocolate Coconut Stout
  • ABV: 6.8%
  • IBUs: 30

Commercial Description:
Oatmeal stout brewed with 10 specialty malts, cocoa nibs, and 1 pound of house toasted coconut per gallon.

Why I selected NORM:

I selected to share NORM with you because of the unique flavor combination and how it represents New England.

Norm is brewed by Wormtown bewery in honor of my beer pal “Norman Miller” aka the Real Beer Nut.  Norm is a fellow beer writer and an important part of the New England Beer community.  With his insatiable love for Coconut and Chocolate, Norm convinced a local brewer to make a beer as complex unique as the Real Beer Nut — “Norm”, the Chocolate Coconut Oatmeal Stout.  It’s quickly becoming a local favorite.

From the initial dark chocolate aroma, I was intrigued to try Norm for the first time.  The first sip of dark chocolate and coconut flavors danced around my mouth.  I am reminded of a rich coconut chocolate doughnut, but not too heavy.  The body is not to thick nor thin, just right.  My palate was left rather clean with a sweet coconut flavor.   At 6.8% ABV, the alochol is well balanced and does not appear dominant.

If you have an opportunity to find a bottle of “Norm”, I recommend picking it up.  It would be perfect for that cold New England Winter night, sitting right in front of the fire.
