Why I selected He’Brew  Funky Jewbelation:

For the third year of the Beer Advent Calendar I selected a beer by Shmaltz Brewing Company.  The last 2 years I bought the holiday gift pack by Shmaltz and enjoyed the brews and lighting the beer menorah on the 8 CrAzY nights of Hanukkah.

Although I love the playful way Shmaltz markets their beer, I actually learned quite a bit about the holiday and have included lighting a Menorah in our holiday traditions. This year, we brought our Menorah (a beer bottle) to share with family on the first night of Hanukkah. When my brother-in-law @thirstynobeard was antsy to go watch a movie, my husband @2beerguys was actually heard saying, “No ones going anywhere until the candle burns out!” It’s great to have a tradition that involves family and friends enjoying a tasty brew while reflecting on our blessings and watching the candles burn.

Funky Jewbelation is a blend of 6 Shmaltz ales that have been aged in rye whiskey and bourbon barrels. This aging really rounds out all the flavors that mix and mingle together to create this brew. It is a dark brown (reddish when held in the light) with a light tan head that lasts. I get some great cherry, fig and sour notes on the nose. The flavor is a stunning combination of figs, plums, sour apples and a sticky sweet something that must come from the malts and barrels. 9.8 ABV? I’d never guess.

L’Chaim!
