BBC 14 Kicks off with a Blast

Our first few days of our trip to SoCal have been a whirlwind (more on that later) and the BeerBloggers Conference hadn’t even kicked off yet. Thursday we had the chance to join over a dozen other bloggers for a San Diego brewery tour hosted by APlusLimos. We met up and piled into a stretch limo excited for the festivities to begin.

Our first stop was Societe Brewing which was easily my favorite as well, not only was their selection of beer amazing but their use of old style silhouettes for beer logos is just cool. I didn’t follow the “beer tour rules” and get a sampler because this was going to be my 1000th Untappd check-in.  I ordered The Butcher a Russian Imperial Stout that didn’t disappoint.

Our next stop was White Labs the yeast maker, we weren’t able to tour the facility but their tap room has an amazing selection of beer using different yeast strains with the same wort. I chose a hefeweizen flight that used four different yeasts.  Stopping at White Labs helped to open my tastebuds further to the power of yeast and that teaching about beer is very beneficial in this manner.  It’s too bad we don’t have a place like White Labs in New England to help enlighten others about yeast.

Our third stop took us to AleSmith where we were finally reunited with Dukester whose delayed flight kept him from starting the tour with us.  We sampled some of their beers regularly distributed to Massachusetts as well as their brewery only beers. A favorite was the Speedway Stout with vietnamese coffee.

After Alesmith we also visited Council Brewing (where Sean traded his shirt with a Mainer) and Benchmark Brewing.  APlusLimos not only brought us to some great places but they also showed us a great time.

Stay tuned for more from San Diego.
