Visting Maine? Stop into the Liberal Cup

If you happen to be traveling through central Maine (visiting family/friends or spending some time in vacation land) stop by the Liberal Cup. The Liberal cup is located in Hallowell, Maine which is only about 10-15 minutes off  highway 95. Hallowell is right side by each with Augusta and is only 2 hours from the Mass/NH border (some Mainers may even call this Southern Maine).

We happened to be in the area on Friday night, so we stopped in for a bite to eat and to enjoy a tasty local brew. The menu listed about 15-20 different beers, but they had 5 or 6 beers available on draft.  Dunkel John’s Band was the only seasonal beer, so I dove right in.  It was very smooth and drinkable.

The menu is reasonably priced (ranging between $5 and $16) and offers a wide variety of choices. During my visit, Prime Rib happened to be on the special menu, so I had to indulge.  It was delicious, oh so tender and juicy.

The Liberal Cup is a brew pub (non production brewery) and has a avid local following. You can easily paint a picture in your mind by the following: “Old world style English Pub. Comfortable, friendly atmosphere serving delicious homemade fare and fresh brewed beers crafted in our brewery on the premises.”  Located in the active downtown Hallowell, right along the river, the brew pub is surrounded by some great little shops.

The Liberal Cup has a sister brewery called The Run of the Mill brewery, located in Saco, Maine, which opened in 2008. The Run of the Mill Public House & Brewery is located near the city’s downtown. Along with the inside seating area, there is an outdoor patio that overlooks the rapids in the Saco River. I have yet to visit this location (but if the atmosphere, the beer and the food are the same), I’d recommend to put it on  your travel destination list.

Enjoy!!
