STEVENS POINT, Wis. JULY, 2010 – Add a hint of raspberry flavor to a Belgian-style Saison and you’ve got the latest “big beer” from Stevens Point Brewery’s Whole Hog Limited Release Brewmaster’s Series.

Whole Hog Raspberry Saison is now available in four-packs of 12-ounce longneck bottles and kegs wherever Point beers are sold.

Whole Hog Raspberry Saison is the fifth brew in Point Brewery’s Whole Hog Limited Release Brewmaster’s Series, dedicated to delivering big, bold beers to the most discerning craft-beer aficionados. The Whole Hog lineup, which styles vary throughout the year, includes Whole Hog Six-Hop India Pale Ale and Whole Hog Imperial Pilsner, as well as Whole Hog Russian Imperial Stout and Whole Hog Pumpkin Ale.
Brewing Belgian-style Saison

Saison ales are a specialty of Wallonia, the French-speaking southern part of Belgium. Whole Hog Raspberry Saison is brewed in the Saison style, hand-crafted with a variety of barley malts, including 2-row, Pilsen, Munich and special roasted malts. The new brew, with an alcohol content of 7.2% by volume, also uses Cluster and Willamette hops, a special Belgian ale yeast perfect for brewing Saison and a touch of natural raspberry flavor.

The result is a refreshingly tart, spicy beer with a fruity hint of raspberry, said Ken Carlson, Stevens Point Brewery’s Director of Brewing. “We chose raspberry as the best fruit fit with the Saison style,” he said. “The raspberry delivers an earthy complement to the herbal spiciness of the beer. The roasted malts make the beer a little more complex than the typical Saison.”
