UNIONDALE, NY. – Award-winning event producer Starfish Junction Productions is putting the finishing touches on the 5th Annual Spring Craft Beer Festival being held on March 26, 2011 at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, NY. More than 50 craft breweries will be in attendance, pouring samples of their finest brews-more than 100 in all. The Brewers Association, the trade association that tabulates production statistics for U.S. breweries, reports that while U.S. beer sales were down an estimated 2.7% by volume in the first half of 2010, the growth of the craft brewing industry in the first half of 2010 was 9% by volume and 12% by retail dollars.

Long Island is fast becoming a major player in the national craft beer scene. We’re producing some amazing beers here, people beyond our shores are taking notice,” said Andy Calimano, event producer and co-owner of Starfish Junction Productions. “The locals are embracing the growth too. You can see it when you walk into a craft beer bar and notice the number of tap lines have doubled since this time last year,” he added.

The 2011 Spring Craft Beer Festival brewery lineup includes many of Long Island’s favorites-Blue Point Brewing Co., Greenport Harbor Brewing Company, Fire Island Beer Company, Long Ireland Beer Company, Great South Bay Brewery, Blind Bat Brewery, Black Forest Brew Haus, John Harvard’s Brew House, and the BrickHouse Brewery. Other notable national breweries exhibiting at the festival include Dogfish Head Brewery (DE), Thomas Hooker (CT), Goose Island Beer Company (IL), Erie Brewing Company (PA), Brooklyn Brewery (NY), Founders Brewing Co. (MI), and Speakeasy Ales & Lagers (CA). Festival attendees can enjoy the Clare Rose Beer Garden which will feature the Long Island distributor’s craft beer superstars, including: Blue Point Brewing Co., Great South Bay Brewery, Goose Island Beer Co., Kona Brewing Co., and Widmer Brothers Brewing.

An entertaining and informative lineup of speakers and special programming will be presented at the festival and will include two interactive lectures led by Samuel Merritt, one of 150 Certified Ciceroneā„¢ Beer Sommeliers in the U.S. and the first in New York City. Other topics include Home Brewing, How to Start a Brewery, Beer & Chocolate, and Beer 101 which will provide an overview of beer production and beer styles.
