Commercial Description:

A spruce-infused pale ale, Pennsylvania Tuxedo pays homage to the flannel-suited hunters and gatherers who dwell deep in the backcountry of north-central PA.

Brewed in collaboration with family-run outdoor clothing company Woolrich, Pennsylvania Tuxedo is a sessionable concoction with a grassy citrus kick complemented by the resinous conifer notes of fresh green spruce tips. We went into the forests of north-central Pennsylvania and Georgetown, Del., to pick these fresh tips ourselves.

A dry yet doughy malt backbone lets the hops and spruce shine while still balancing out the bitterness, making this one an easy sipper.

Why I selected Pennsylvania Tuxedo:

I have long had an affinity for Dogfish beers and love that they are always trying different things. It does’t hurt that Sam Mariah and the crew are great people. I walked into the package store (for the un-enlightned a package store or packie is New Englandese for a beer / liquor store) searching for something to feature in this year’s 31 beers of December and the packaging screamed to me telling me I must take it home. There was something about the gentlemen in classic Woolrich red and black hunting gear. I can’t say that there was initial excitement about the spruce tips because they can either be a great addition or it can taste like I’m drinking a car freshener.  Luckily the spruce added just the right flavor and per the description was quite drinkable.
