Why I selected Pretty Things Jack D’Or & Field Mouse’s Farewell:

This year I chose to double down on my choice for 31 Beers of December. I selected Jack D’Or and Field Mouse’s Farewell to honor Pretty Things Beer and Ale Project. They recently announced the end of their very successful beer “project.” I found it only fitting on day deux to bid farewell to dear Jack. Jack D’Or has been one of my favorite beers since I began drinking craft beer. I swiftly became a fan of saisons on a whirlwind evening with Sean and our friend Ignace in a small pub in Ghent, Belgium circa mid 2000’s. The swirl of patrons, atmosphere and stunning brews intoxicated and immediately hooked me. Upon discovering “Jack” and meeting Martha and Dann, I felt the same overwhelming fondness for the beer and people who made it.

I love to enjoy Jack poured into a tulip glass paired with a spicy dish. He’s very good at cooling down a hot head, especially when his flavors can properly flourish.

Field Mouse’s Farewell is a fall beer and Pretty Things announcement came just as autumn closed. It seemed only fitting to toast the holiday season with Mr. Mouse. Although saddened for the end of such a good thing, I look forward to whatever new “project” may be on the horizon for Dann and Martha. Here’s to a holiday season filled to the brim with love, cheer and glasses of beer. In the words of the field mouse, “For a beginning, there must be an end.”

Cheers!

About Pretty Things Beer & Ale Project
Pretty Things is an idea, not a brewery. We are a two-person company based in Somerville, MA. Twice a week (or so), we brew our beers at Buzzards Bay Brewery in Westport, MA. We bring you beers that are truly of our own making.

Jack D’Or, our flagship beer, is the mournful grain of barley you can see to the left. He is the soul of beer, nature’s magician, creating sugar from starch and bringing together the Pretty Things. One of the most joyful transformations in nature, better than any rabbit from a hat, beer is the result.  Cheers from us to you!  http://prettybeer.com/
