Commercial Description: This year’s release is aged in 12 and 15 year old American whiskey barrels and is a blend of 24 and 12 month old barrel strength Abominable Ale. Bbomb achieves distinct bourbon, oak, cacao, leather, and dark coffee notes from it’s extended barrel aging and barrel blendin. Each barrel contributes a different note and combining each barrel to create a coherent tone is a distinct art and true pleasure. Please do enjoy this unique barrel-aged ale today but know that Bbomb will age gracefully for at least another five years.

Why I selected the Fremont Bourbon Barrel Aged Abominable Winter Ale:

This one one of my favorite winter releases from a Washington state brewery. Always complex, always interesting and one of those beers that just seems to pair perfectly with cold winter weather. The warming feeling from the higher alcohol and the desire to drink this in front of a blazing fire in the fireplace make this a go to winter beer for me. This is a beer that ages very well, but is never disappointing just after release.

If you can get to Portland, OR or Seattle, WA for their respective Holiday Ale Festivals, you will not be disappointed!

What would you pair this beer with?
Roasted meats such as a standing prime rib roast, or my favorite, rich sugary desserts such as bread pudding or creme brulee. It also pairs very well post meal with a rich, dark roast coffee. It also makes for a ridiculously decadent ice cream float in conjunction with a high quality vanilla bean ice cream.

About Duke Geren
After spending 23 years in the airline business, I found myself looking for something more. As you might imagine, and if you travel much at all, working for an airline has become increasingly less rewarding in the last 15 years. I’ve been a craft beer fan for many, many years and my better half found the job that got my foot in the door at a home brew shop to follow my true passion.

After a year of working part time at the home brew shop, I quit my full time job to dive head long into the home brew community which eventually led me into the craft beer business. Having attended multiple Beer Blogger Conferences and meeting folks and building relationships with people in the craft beer world, I realized that I finally found my tribe. From there, I was very fortunate to land a job working for Bison Organic Beer as the liaison for West Coast distributors.

About Fremont:

Fremont Brewing was born of our love for our home and history as well as the desire to prove that beer made with the finest local ingredients – organic when possible – is not the wave of the future but the doorway to beer’s history. Starting a brewery in the midst of the Great Recession is clearly an act of passion. We invite you to come along with us and enjoy that passion … Because Beer Matters.

Fremont Brewing is located in Seattle’s Fremont neighborhood, which is industrial and sleekly postmodern – home to artists, fisherpeople, tradespeople, technology geeks, and lots of beer lovers. And, for those who don’t know, Washington State is home to the second largest hop growing region in the world.

Founder/Owner Matt Lincecum is a long-time environmentalist, community organizer, and home brewer. But to make a living, he became an attorney and specialized in beverage and hospitality law. As fun as that sounds, Matt decided that instead of spending his time making other people’s dreams of owning a bar or restaurant or brewery come true, he should realize his own latent and undisclosed-to-his-wife desire to start a microbrewery.
