Be the talk of the BBQ by bringing some craft beers

“Rain Rain Go Away” and come back another day: well, at least not until next spring. OK. We’ve had enough rain for the past few weeks and it’s time for summer. It’s the season for BBQs, hanging with friends, and making frequent trips to the beach.

If you’re heading off to a BBQ or hosting a special party, enhance this experience by adding some tasty craft beer to the mix. Not only will you be the highlight of the party, but your friends will envy your selection.

If you are new to the craft beer scene, here are some great summer recommendations that will leave a lasting memory:

Sea Dog BluePaw Unfiltered Wheat Ale

Pop the top and the strong blueberry aroma will escape from the bottle. The BluePaw is light and easy to drink. The taste has a strong blueberry presence, but it is not overpowering. The creamy body enhances the overall experience. This is my top 5 all time beers.

“Blueberry, the whole blueberry, and nothing but the blueberry, mmm…that is good, tastes like a blueberry muffin”

    Stats:
    * ABV: 3.5%-4.5%
    * Style: Unfiltered Wheat Ale
    * Offering: Year Round

Long Trail Blackberry Wheat

Smooth and refreshing, the Blackberry Wheat is easy to drink. It’s fruity, but not over powering. This is a great beer to bring into a group that would like to try something new but have been scared off by stronger beers.

    Stats:
    * ABV: 4.0%
    * Style: American Wheat
    * Offering: Year Round

UFO White

New to the Harpoon UFO family, this Belgian style wheat ale was released in the spring of 2009. Cloudy and light in color, the fruity citrus and banana notes are a pleasant surprise. It is nice way to end a hot summer day.

    Stats:
    * ABV: 4.8%
    * Style: American White Ale
    * Offering: Seasonal (April to October)

Samuel Adams Summer Ale

This is the most popular summer seasonal ale in New England. The early April arrival may take some by surprise, but once it’s gone in August – it’s gone, until next year at least. The Summer Ale is smooth and easy to drink. Light in body and slightly watery, the Summer Ale is malty without a noticeable hop presence. Spice up your day and add a slice of lemon to your glass.

    Stats:
    * ABV: 5.3%
    * Style: American Wheat Ale
    * Offering: Seasonal (April to August)

This selection will quench your thirst, but still leave room for ice cream. These beers are available at a store near you.
